Launch of the refresher course for referees in Sana'a
Today, a refresher course for referees kicked off at the Olympic Center in the capital, Sana’a. The course is organized by the Supreme Referees Committee of the Yemeni Football Association in preparation for the First Division League for the 2025/2026 season.
The course is part of a program that includes three gatherings in the Capital Secretariat, Aden, and Seiyun during the period from March 25 to April 7, 2026, with each gathering lasting four days.
Sixty referees representing the governorates of (the Capital Secretariat, Ibb, Al Hudaydah, Al Bayda, Dhamar, and Hajjah) are participating in the Capital Secretariat gathering, which runs from March 25 to 28, 2026.
At the opening of the course, Mr. Ahmed Al-Sahli, Director of the Association, welcomed the participating referees and conveyed the greetings of the Association’s President, Sheikh Ahmed Saleh Al-Essi, and the Secretary-General, Mr. Hossam Al-Sanbani. He wished the referees success, encouraging them to make the most of the course program, stay updated on new developments, maintain physical fitness, stay highly focused during matches, keep up with changes, and avoid mistakes.
He emphasized that the Association gives great importance to refereeing and is keen to develop referees’ capabilities and provide the necessary resources to ensure the success of training and qualification programs.
For his part, the Chairman of the Supreme Referees Committee praised the Association leadership’s support and care for referees, including providing necessary equipment, referees’ kits, training gear, and communication devices funded through league sponsorship revenues.
He also wished the referees success in the course and in the physical fitness tests ahead of the league’s start, hoping they would gain significant benefit and keep up with the latest refereeing amendments that will be implemented in the league according to FIFA instructions.
After that, lecturer Captain Ahmed Al-Sharif explained the laws of the game and several refereeing cases such as handball, penalty kicks, player challenges, and distinguishing between fouls, with additional contributions from international lecturer Captain Mukhtar Saleh.
The evening session included training at Al-Dhuraifi Stadium, covering warm-up exercises, positioning, assistant referees’ offside correction, and drills for main referees on positioning and errors occurring inside the penalty area.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Mohammed Noman, Secretary of the Supreme Referees Committee, and Captain Kamal Al-Ghail, the technical supervisor of referees in the Capital Secretariat.
