Yemeni League: Al-Wehda Awarded Walkover Win, Al-Ahli Sanaa Defeat Al-Ittihad
Al-Ahli Sanaa secured a 1–0 victory over Al-Ittihad Ibb on Saturday evening at Al-Wehda Club Stadium in the opening round of Group A of the Yemeni League, with matches in the group taking place in the capital, Sanaa.
The only goal of the match was scored by striker Haidar Aslam, whom Al-Ahli Sanaa had announced signing just hours earlier from Al-Saqr of Taiz, after the club released its players and withdrew from the league.
The Yemeni League is being played under a two-group format: Group A in Sanaa and Group B in Seiyun, Hadramout. The top two teams from each group will advance to compete for the championship title.
Meanwhile, at Seiyun Stadium, Al-Wehda Sanaa showed up for their scheduled match against Al-Tali’ah Taiz, but after the official waiting period elapsed, the referee declared the match over, awarding Al-Wehda a walkover victory.
Al-Tali’ah had earlier announced its withdrawal from all competitions organized by the Yemeni Football Association in solidarity with its city rival, Al-Saqr.
